The Helper
I came across this verse from the Book of Galatians,
Galatians 5:22-23
22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
I was comforted knowing that I am have the Spirit within me, so what exactly is this Spirit? In the original Greek it is the word Pneuma which is “breath”.
But in the context of this verse it refers more to the third person of the triune God and that is the Holy Spirit, coequal, coeternal with the Father and the Son according to Strong’s translation but to add further a Spirit that in dwells a person.
As believers this Holy Spirit in dwells us when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour the triune God comes into us and dwells within us. So what does this Holy Spirit in us do for us?
John 14:26
26But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things…
These are words of Jesus, saying that His father will send the Holy Spirit in His name to teach you all things. The Holy Spirit here is also referred to by Jesus as “the helper”. So what will this “Helper” teach us? Looking at the verse it says “..will teach you all things…” so as it says it will teach ALL THINGS!
So be it a problem with health, finances, relationships, family, anger and addictions or bondages of any kind, the wisdom to deal with these problems is found via the helper. Conventional wisdom, teaches us to consult professionals to deal with these issues there is of course nothing wrong with this but God who has sent this helper wants us to come to Him first for help. Worldly or conventional wisdom can only take you so far but using the wisdom that God provides through the Holy Spirit we can have permanent resolution, not only that but supernatural blessing and provision to the problem.
John 14:16-18
16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.
Here Jesus further cements the promise of “the helper” and that this helper will abide with you forever and it is the Spirit of Truth. This spirit of truth is something that the world cannot receive because they do not know Jesus, but as for us who do know Him, it dwells within us and it will never leave you!
How does this manifest? Will there be a sign in the sky or a booming voice in your head?
No it’s even better than that! Ever had a feeling when something not only logically but also in your spirit is shouting “Go for it!” Where every fibre of your being is saying “YES!”? Inversely, ever been in a situation where the people around you are encouraging you to do something but that feeling deep down is telling you not to?
Well if you have had that feeling my friends, then you know that is the Holy Spirit, the Helper working in you, indwelling in you guiding you. It is the feeling that God gives each of us from the inside, is how He leads us, not by signs or wonders but by the Holy Spirit working within us.
And if we read further John 14,
John 14:27 (New King James Version)
27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Jesus himself is saying in verse 27, that the peace He is giving us is something that the world cannot gives but He gives us because He loves us and we love Him and He goes on to say, “Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid”.
This is His gift of Peace via the Holy Spirit. So when fear comes, problems abound turn to Him, and the Holy Spirit, the Helper within you will guide you along the right path. This is the peace that only God can give, and when we follow that good things even miracles will come forth!
All Glory to Him
